An Evening with Layton Skip James -- Keyboard Craftsman

Playing a harpsichord he built himself, master keyboardist and craftsman Layton "Skip" James will share his art and experiences as the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra's Principal Keyboard for 41 years. Best known as an improvising continuo player at the harpsichord, organ and fortepiano, James has accompanied some of the biggest names in classical music, including Yo Yo Ma, Joshua Bell, Isaac Stern and many more. He is the featured harpsichordist on two recordings of Handel's Messiah, conducted by Robert Shaw, and is frequently called upon to compose cadenzas for baroque and classic concertos.
