The Shadows Tribute Band

On "The Day the Music Died," anxious crowds looked to Dick Dunkirk to replace Buddy Holly, Richie Valens and the Big Bopper ... literally. On that dark day in 1959, Dunkirk and his band, The Shadows, were the last-minute substitutes for the rockers whose plane crashed near Clear Lake, Iowa, hours before. Ever since that performance, Dunkirk has been playing the music of the '50s and '60s with rare passion and authenticity. Now Dunkirk and the latest incarnation of the Shadows are coming the Schneider Theater of the Bloomington Center for the Arts. With accompaniment by the strings of the Bloomington Symphony Orchestra, The Shadows Tribute Band will play the best of Buddy Holly, Roy Orbison, Ritchie Valens, Big Bopper, Gene Pitney, Bobby Vee and the Everly Brothers.
