Founded in 1926, the mission of the Minneapolis Urban League is to link African descendants and other people of color to opportunities that result in economic success and prosperity, and effectively advocate for policies that eradicate racial disparities.
Who We Are
The Minneapolis Urban League, a community-based nonprofit organization, is embarking on historic change as the Urban League movement reaches its 100th anniversary. For a century, the Urban League has played a role in the great transitions in our country. We have moved from survival to civil rights to national office. Today, the Minneapolis Urban League, which was founded in 1926, is one of the top ten affiliates of the National Urban League based in New York, NY.
Despite this progress, we can see that the fundamental struggle remains for many people. Each year, we provide direct service for nearly 4,000 people and 20,000 more look to us to for public advocacy. At the 100 year mark, we are staking a claim to building the human and material infrastructure of the community of people of African descent in Minnesota.
