For the Ethnic Dance Theatre, dance isn't just choreography, it's a mirror that reflects the very soul of a particular culture. A company of musicians, dancers and singers, EDT performs the traditional dances of cultures from all over the world, drawing on its famous collection of 5,000 native costumes representing 55 cultures, including hand-embroidered pieces more than a century old. Now, in celebration of its 40th anniversary season, these remarkable artists will present dance pieces from each decade of the company's repertoire. Backed by the multi-talented musicians of the EDT orchestra -- many of whom play rare and exotic folk instruments -- this remarkable troupe will celebrate the folk art of peoples who make up "the American tapestry."
