TC Weekend | Art in Bloom, Cinco de Mayo, MayDay, Festival of Nations & more!

We’ve endured puddles, potholes, puddles in potholes and chilly April showers -- now it’s time for some May flowers!  This weekend’s forecast calls for a bit more sun (crossing fingers), perfect for getting out to Art in Bloom, the Summer Flower Show, and the many festivals in the Twin Cities. Details below:

Art in Bloom, May 1-4 

Take time to smell the roses and delight your eyes with timeless art at Minneapolis Institute of Arts' 31st Annual Art in Bloom. On display will be 150 floral arrangements designed to reflect art from MIA’s permanent collection.

Festival of Nations, May 1-4 

Get a glimpse of the globe in one colorful setting at Festival of Nations, an annual festival presented by the Internatinal Institute of Minnesota. From the International Bazaar, and folk art demonstrations, to cultural exhibits, food, music, and dance from all over the world, there's plenty to see, do, and taste! This year's theme is "Peace Among the People."

Summer Flower Show, May 3 (through October 5)

Another chance to smell the flowers presents itself at Como Park Conservatory's Summer Flower Show. This year promises new plants, including the Cartwheel series of Gerbera Daisy, and Cassia Popcorn with leaves that smell like popcorn! Various geraniums, caladium and Petunias will also be on hand. Come on out and get a jump on the sights and scents of summer.

Cinco de Mayo Celebration - West Side, May 3

Featuring a parade, live entertainment, a lowride car show, kids' activites and much more, this annual festival celebrating Mexican heritage and culture, is a joyous celebration with something for everyone.

West Saint Paul, along Cesar Chavez Street between Robert Street and Highway 52.

MayDay Parade, May 4 

The 40th Annual MayDay event, centered around togetherness and betterment in the community, is celebrated in three parts: the parade, ceremony, and festival. Kicking off at noon this year, the parade starts east of Bloomington Avenue on 25th Street with a burst of puppetry and floats by Heart of the Beast Puppet and Mask Theatre. The parade winds its way to Powderhorn Park for the Tree of Life ceremony, followed by the festival featuring music, dancing, poetry, foods, canoe rides, and more. Go here for more parade route details and other info.


5th Annual Pan Asian Arts Festival, May 4 

Pan Asian dance performances and demonstrations, crafts, face painting, calligraphy, origami, and more! This festival is led by the Pan Asian Arts Alliance, Asian Media Access, Landmark Center, and local Asian performing arts groups and artists. Organizers welcome all to celebrate Asian Pacific Heritage Month at this event.
