IMPETUS is a new, four-day festival of emerging contemporary dance in the Twin Cities curated by Kimberly Peterson and presented by The Soap Factory. Engage in the creative process, take classes and workshops, observe open rehearsals and talk shop with local Twin-Cities movement artists during IMPETUS. The festival concludes on Saturday, August 24th with gala performances from each of the eight participating choreographers.
IMPETUS seeks to de-mystify the creative process of the production of dance. Visitors are encouraged to participate on every level; from guided improvisation, dance composition classes, yoga and meditation practices, lectures on interdisciplinary work and the creative process, open rehearsals and everything is open for observation! These sessions are free and open to the public. With local choreographers leading each session, IMPETUS is an opportunity to explore and experiment with dance and movement arts as the creative process unfolds.
Saturday night’s closing gala is a showcase for the new performances being developed during IMPETUS. The gala will consist of roaming performances, mingling and meeting the artists and performers, discussion and celebrating dance in the Twin-Cities.
Participating Choreographers: BodyCartography Project, Non Edwards, Emily Gastineau, Paul Herwig, Dustin Maxwell, Jes Nelson, Tamara Ober, Vanessa Voskuil
