A Lovely Sunday for Creve Coeur

Tennessee Williams' one-act play A Lovely Sunday for Creve Coeur is a surprisingly funny story about the meaning of loneliness and the need for human connection, as well as the compromises necessary to make do in life. Set in 1930s St. Louis, the story focuses on four women struggling for a sense of identity and belonging. Dorothea is a deluded high school teacher who thinks her so-called beau is going to propose, but little does she know he's already engaged to another. This secret comes out in a way that changes the plans of all four women and is portrayed with a mix of tenderness and comic irony. A Lovely Sunday for Creve Coeur may be lesser-known than Williams' other plays (The Glass Menagerie, A Streetcar Named Desire, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof) but it's no less enjoyable and the intimate setting of the Gremlin Theatre, an actual house, will allow you to closely connect with the characters.
